A Sweet and Unusual Day Out: Ferrets, Flour, and Friendship
At iLEX Compliance Services, our remote-first way of working means flexibility, independence, and the freedom to work from anywhere — but it also makes it even more important to create intentional opportunities to connect in person.
Last week, part of our Operations team swapped their usual home office routines for a memorable (and slightly unusual!) team day out. The itinerary? A morning of ferret walking through peaceful woodland paths, followed by an afternoon of cupcake baking in a professional kitchen.
We kicked off the day with a walk in the sunshine, each team member paired with a furry little companion. For most of us, walking a ferret was a first — and definitely a highlight! It brought plenty of laughs, photo opportunities, and the kind of unexpected joy that only animals can provide.
From there, it was aprons on and whisks at the ready as we dove into the cupcake baking session. Ingredients were measured, batter was mixed, and creative chaos unfolded — all in the name of team bonding. There was no shortage of flour-covered surfaces or friendly competition over whose cupcakes would rise the most perfectly.
Beyond the fun and flour, days like this remind us why team culture matters. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, especially in a remote setting, but making space to laugh, try something new, and connect outside of work is what helps us thrive together.
A huge thank you to the team for embracing every moment — and for proving once again that collaboration, humour, and a little bit of icing sugar go a long way.
